– SPARTAN ceramic objects collection is the out spring of my collaboration with TWO IS COMPANY, an internationally acclaimed Greek design brand specialized in custom made luxury design & objects of 50’s modernism
I was commissioned to design The Spartan collection, namely giving form to its varied items and to me this has been a most fruitful collaboration. I have enjoyed all along the harmonious process of creating work, which was curated by experienced designers who shared their valuable knowledge of specific production techniques and materials with me.
The “Spartan” collection consists of utilitarian, ceramic objects such as bowls of various sizes, trays and vases in simple, Doric forms with pronounced references to elements of ancient utensils such as tripod vessels.
The “Spartan” collection focuses on pronounced yet simple geometric shapes: segments of spheres, cylinders and cones, combined with dynamic elements of the modernist vocabulary such as the ellipsis and some distinctive colors of 50’s modernism.
Industrial designer Dianna Karvounis and architect-designer Vivian Philippa, the co-founders of TWO IS COMPANY, have given their distinctive aesthetic signature to the design, by determining materials, texture and color.
